Q729:  I had my thyroid removed because of Papillary Carcinoma. I now have Hypothyroidism. Am I able to draw for Hypothyroidism?

A1:  I am making the assumption that you are a Vietnam veteran and are making reference to the recent addition to the presumptive conditions, hypothyroidism, bladder cancer, and parkinsonism, for exposure to Agent Orange. This would be a sticky issue. I would file for hypothyroidism secondary to exposure to AO and let the VA decide. You may be denied but, if so, then file for higher level review. If the higher level review is unsuccessful, then file the NOD and see what the BVA decides.  (DS)  6/9/21

     

A2:  Yes you can get service connected for this if you served in Vietnam on a Navy Ship in the waters of Vietnam.  (GR)  6/9/21
