Q676: The list of contaminated military bases in USA published lately lists diseases or afflictions that affect me. I was in Navy in the late 60s. Can I file for SC for this?

A1: Just because a military base is on a list of "contaminated military bases" does not mean that VA will agree with the list. If you feel you have a disability that is related to a chemical used at one of the bases on the list, by all means, file. Any disability that you feel is related to where you were stationed or to what you did in the military, file a disability claim. If you do not file the claim with the VA you will never get service connected. Even a disability is not any given list, it may, at some point, be added later on. When this occurs, the VA normally goes back on your effective date to consider how much, if any, compensation may be due you. (DS) 3/5/21
A2: The only location that I have seen and filled claims for is The Marine Base Camp Lejeune, and if you were stationed there for at least 30 days then you can file a claim for those diseases. (GR) 3/6/21
