Q408: No one I know can answer this question, maybe someone in this community can. How long am I supposed to keep my VA documents?

A1: Some records can be disposed of after 7 to 10 years. My account advises me to keep tax returns forever. Not sure there is an answer for your question but I plan to keep everything I have regarding the VA for life. I have so advised my family to keep them 7 years after my death. Probably an overkill but the VA has been known to loose records. (DB) 4/30/20
A2: I suggest that you keep them permanently. You never know when the National Personnel Records Center might have another fire. (TM) 4/30/20
A3: If it is not a problem, keep the VA documents and don't throw them away. It is hard to tell if you will ever need them again. Better safe than sorry is my opinion. (RC) 4/30/20
A4: AS long as you are ALIVE! (JD) 5/1/20
A5: I also suggest if you have several years of records that you scan them and save them electronically on a USB drive. I have mine saved that way and have a duplicate USB drive in a safe deposit box. (DB) 5/1/20
