Q373:  I am a 100% disabled vet and cannot seem to get dental care from VA.  It seems to take a year or more for an appointment and then they get moved. I need care now.  Am I able to use choice for dental care?

A1:  I am not sure about dental but I know OPTOMOTRY did it for me when I requested it when I was in the same situation as you. Just put in a request stating your situation and how long it has been and that you would like to be seen in a dental office in the community. All they can say is no but then you can appeal it. Do not for get about your Patient Advocate either.  (LT)  3/19/20

A2:  I am 100% and using the choice care program for dental care and am very satisfied with it. The VA dentist I think has to put you in for it.  (MW)  3/19/20

A3:   I can't use VA dental either so ( living in El Paso Tx. I went across the border to Juarez for care. After trial and error I found Nucleo dental with an American trained doctor (Dr. Moran) and in my 66 years have never had better care and the prices are low. I've met people from Canada, California, Florida and locals like me in his state of the art clinic. I gave up begging the VA for dental help a long time ago.  (DD)  3/19/20

A4:  Don't know your loction, but if you are 100% then you are able to get dental thru VA, not sure about choice program tho, hope this helps.

A5:  If you are within 40 miles of the VA Hospital or the Veterans Administration designated Medical facility, I would call first to ensure they can do the following:

1. Register with your medical facility administration department at your VA medical facility. Or call your counties VA representative and tell she/he that you need dental work, are 100% Disabled Veteran, Service connected, and you are not getting any help from the Veterans Administration thus far.
2. Have them look up your VA records, verify the VA has you listed as 100% Disabled Veteran, Service connected, and have them direct you to who can set up a dental appointment for you.
3. If you have not done so as yet, and you are married, after doing steps one, and two, contact ChampVA, and have them send you a registration form for your wife to receive Medical care. Or download it from the Internet. Please be aware, this does involve a co-pay for your wife's medical charges.  Bottom line: If the VA does not offer your an appointment that they keep without cancellation, you are entitled to be referred out to a private VA designated Dentist for your dental work to be completed.  I hope this helps you.

A6:  When it taking the VA dental a long time to see you. You can request to see an outside dental and they will approve it. I have done this because the dentist at the VA are full most of the time. Just ask them at the VA dental to send you to an outside dentist. I hope this help. MAKE SURE YOU STAY ON TOP OF THIS AND DO NOT GIVE IN TO ANY ANSWER.  (CT)  3/20/20

A7:  Join the Club, I am in the same boat. I was told since the Choice Program was discontinued The Mission Program is taking it's Place, but no one is getting me an approval to see an outside Specialist. Don't have many teeth left.  (HG)  3/25/20
