Q372: Can a veteran who is rated 100% still apply for other disabilities? Chronic pain has now been accepted as compensable, which I have. Can I apply for additional compensation?
If you have a question about benefits, compensation, pension or VA related issues please submit here.
Use Form Below To Respond
A1: Yes, you can and should apply for every ailment that you have due to service connection, it is best to be rated for everything in case an aggravation or worsening of that disability occurs, then the VA will cover it. You are not, however, able to receive an amount higher than 100% from VA disability. There may be other benefits available to you though, such as aid and attendance, etc. (DB) 3/9/20
A2: You can apply for an increase provided that your medical evidence shows which condition or conditions have worsened. However if you are already at 100% overall for your service connected conditions even if any of your conditions is raised due to chronic pain, your 100% will not be increased. You will still receive the same percentage rating but the additional disability increase for any condition will be reflected in your overall medical condition. The only way to increase your monthly monetary compensation is to apply for either aid and attendance or hiousebound status. You have to file a VA Form 21-2680 to be eligible for that benefit. It is called special monthly compensation or SMC. There are different levels of SMC that the VA can grant. Please consult your veterans service organization and have your VSO file your claim for you.
