Q437: How do I get a new ID card from VA? VA has me listed as unmarried when I have been married since 1967 (53 years). So how can I change that I tried calling it in and they said it would be taken care of but I have not been notified.
If you have a question about benefits, compensation, pension or VA related issues please submit here.

A1: so, there are two different things going here and not all information is presented. Your VA card has nothing to do with your marriage being recognized. I had that problem and the fix is doable but not necessarily fast. The VA uses a contracted 3rd party to verify your marriage. if they can not find your marriage recorded, If you are close to a VA hospital go to benefits with your certified marriage license and if either one of you have been married before, a certified copy of of the divorce. The state where you were married main library has a reference division. Give them a call. Our marriage was not listed in the library, because it was not recorded by the count. Did you get a declined.letter from the VA? If not, Your request was never forwarded correctly. If you are on on disability, you will be owed back pay. Seems to me, when I received the decline, I was given contact to the 3rd party and how to correct it at a small fee. (LE) 6/4/20
A2: Your VA ID card that you have for health care does not state marital status. You need to see an accredited VSO to assist you in obtaining dependency for a spouse. You would take a copy of the marriage document and he will submit a VA form 21-686c. You most be at least 30% compensated for claiming dependents. Before you do that look at your Award letter and it will state if your dependents are documented. It is your responsibility with assistance from a VSO to document dependent eligibility. (GH) 6/4/20
