Q389: My understanding of (Aid and Attendance) is intended to supplement veterans and/or their legal who have an approved medical or physical conditions that require additional support of trained family or a professional person to assist with daily life functions IE, eat, dress, bathe, or any thing associated with quality of life functions. The (Pension) was or is for low income non-service connected disabled veterans or the qualifying dependents. This is also dependent on any pre-existing income currently be received. I would like this clarified as of today. My wife is in recovery from a Glioblastoma surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. My current status is 100% P/T and a 25 year active duty retiree. Where will or should I stand on these two benefits?

A1: do you requires a daily caregiver because of your disabilities and, if so, who is that person? since your wife has been battling cancer, I am assuming that she probably has not been your caregiver. in any event, your doctor would have to complete and sign the application for Aid and Attendance to be submitted to VA. good luck. A2: I would advise you to speak with your wife's doctor to see if your wife will need a permanent caregiver to attend to her daily living activities. Also, do you have disabilities that prevent you from performing daily living activities and do you currently have a regular caregiver that provides aid and attendance for you. The doctor would have to complete the VA aid and attendance form for each of you for submission to the VA. I strongly advise you to go through your veterans service organization or private veterans representative you have on file with the VA to file the aid and attendance claim. Good luck and stay safe during this health crisis. (KG) 4/16/20
