Q349: I just read about retro pay and I had hoped but VA as always denied me. From the day of my military discharge in 1975 I went to a VA hospital in Houston Texas. Just who gets retro pay? I’m 100%. Now what?

A1: The retro pay is the pay that you receive from the latest date that you filed the claim with the VA. The VA will use your discharge date if you file within the first year of discharge. When you a file a claim and let a year past before you do anything then you start over. When you a file a claim and continous prosecute and if the VA makes a decision year and a half later then the retro pay will be paid from the first of the next month that the claim was filed.
