Veterans Share How They Won
Sandra Hale, Army Veteran (Continued)
You can get a free Texas hunting/fishing Super Combo license if you qualify: Go to: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/regulations/fish_hunt/licenses/combo/index.phtml . I walked into Wal-Mart with my proof of disability letter I downloaded from www.ebenefits.va.gov and got it. Took five minutes. I also downloaded my VA home loan certificate which can be used to secure a government guaranteed loan to purchase a home and/or land. Go to: http://www.glo.texas.gov/vlb/
Disabled veterans can also apply online for an adapted housing grant. http://benefits.va.gov/homeloans/ . Veterans also can get free or reduced nursing home care at a VA facility and later, free burial at a Veteran Cemetery (you must be dead to qualify). And, your surviving spouse gets a $250 check. See your VA hospital or VA clinic veteran representative.
Combat veterans get five years of free medical/dental care. They also lowered the standards to qualify for VA medical care for regular veterans because they are teaching hospitals and need more human guinea pigs for their research projects, human experiments, experimental medication and techniques and for medical students to practice on (Research grants is where they get most of their operating money). Apply at your local VA hospital or clinic.
Veterans with 50 percent service-related disability rating from the Department of Veterans Affairs or a 40 percent rating due to lower limb amputation can get a free drivers license and disabled veteran license plates. For veteran license plates go to: http://www.txdmv.gov/vehicles/license_plates/qualifying/military.htm. They have radio frequency chips in them that allow you to drive thru some Texas toll roads without paying. Read which toll roads qualify at: http://www.statesman.com/news/news/local/veterans-with-disabilities-wont-need-toll-tag-to-d/nSLQG/ . Just be sure to ditch the plates when the stuff hits the fan because they can be used to track you, as can your cell phones and bank cards. Note: There is a difference between regular DV (disabled veteran) tags and the DV tags with the handicap symbol. You need the handicap symbol to park in handicap parking. Dont get a ticket.
