Q110:  I am rated at 100% and have been for a while.   My kidneys stop functioning two years ago and I filed a claim for kidney failure and they turn me down. I thought I would be eligible for a SMC award for kidney failure.  Why wasn’t I approved?

A1:  1. Why are you 100%? What caused your kidneys to fail? You need to meet three conditions to have a successful claim. First, you must have an illness or injury in service. Second, you must have a nexus of care until the present. Third, you must have a current diagnosis of a chronic condition. You must meet all three conditions.   (AP)  9/3/18
