VA Checks Compromised In eBenefits System
June 19, 2018
The VA will not disclose the number of veterans affected by a recent eBenefits compromise, but some estimates put the figure in the thousands. And, while thousands of veterans are missing disability or pension checks, the VA maintains it will take six weeks or more to refund many veterans the money they are owed.
For example, Army veteran Joseph Ramsell, called on the VA for help after his eBenefits account was compromised and his check redirected to accounts in California. The VA reported that it will take no less than 6 weeks before Ramsell would have his $3400 restored to his account.
VA officials report that getting the problem repaired has now become a test of patience and a battle of determination. Apparently, as soon as hundreds of accounts are fixed, a thousand more pop up as needing “special attention.”
